would like some help
« on: Tuesday 11 March 08 10:53 GMT (UK) »

Hi I am new to this today and was told to come hear and some of you might be able to help.    I am looking for my auntie and uncle who I think pasted away 2 or 3 years ago.   Their names were Helen Turner nee Wass and George Turner.  They used to live in Murray Grove Islington but were moved out as the estate that they lived on was torn down . They would have been in their ninties and we lost touch some years ago as I live in Australia

thanks for your help

Hi Jean

Welcome to Rootschat Wink

Do you have any idea when or where they married, were they always around the London area?

I am trying to establish if they had middle names at all to narrow down the search.

Do you know when or where either were born- or what kids they had?

Especially hoping to find out more about Helen, with her much more unusual surname.Turners are going to be far more difficult to find  Sad

All the best

This is going to be a tough one with so little information.

There is no Turner listed in Murray Grove in the published electoral roll for the years 2002-2008.

If there are any further clues at all they may help.  Deaths for the modern period are indexed with full birthdates, so if you or anybody else in the family can remember what George's or Helen's birthdays were (day/month, even if you don't know year) that could help narrow down the many Turner deaths.

This may be totally off the mark but here goes anyway.

Robert W Wass married Ethel M Church in Pancras in Dec 1916 ref 1b 53.

ELLEN F A Wass was born in St Pancras in Dec 1917 Mothers maiden name Church.

Also brother William J born March 1920 same place.

Ellen could be Helen couldn't it? My best friends mum was really Ellen,my mum always called her Helen  Roll Eyes

Trying to find younger brother Henry next.

What does anyone think?

Possible George Ernest Turner born 9 May 1915 died Jul 2000 age 85 in Tower Hamlets London. Would fit in with her being born 1917  Wink

Will also be checking for their marriage next.

Regards

Yep  Grin Henry Wass mothers maiden name Church(although they've spelt it Chruch!)born in Pancras in the Dec 1/4 of 1922.

So I think we definitely have the right family.

Now to look for George and Ellen's marriage.

Did they have any kids?

And an Ellen Frances Turner died in Islington in Nov 2002 age 85,her DOB is listed as 10 Sept 1917-fits with the Dec 1/4 birth of Ellen F A Wass.

Will give you the refs if you want to order the certs and think they are the  correct people.

EUREKA- I've found their marriage !!! I've been hunting for ages.  Roll Eyes

Ellen F A Wass married George E Turner in Shoreditch in March 1/4 of 1964
Ref  5d page 1029. Proof positive  Wink

So George's death in Tower Hamlets in Jul 2000 register number B32 Entry number 225

Ellen's death in Islington in Nov 2002 register number A39 entry number 67

You can apply online to http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/order_certificates/index.asp#0

Each cert will cost you £7.

Hope that helps.

I've proved that the George whom Ellen married is George E Turner.
This one is the only George E with a birthdate of 9th May who died in London between 1984-2005.

Perhaps he died in 2006 or 7,in which case he ain't going to show for another year or two Sad

Get Ellen's cert and see if it says widow- if so it's likely that it IS the correct George as it shows he died before her  Wink
