Looking for either the birth or baptism of James Macnamara, either Portsmouth area or Gosport (Isle of Wight) It would be in 1700's.

This is the only one listed on the IGI (http://www.familysearch.org) :

James Macnamara baptised 11 May 1783, St Thomas Portsmouth, parents James and Mary.

Gosport is another parish on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour, not on the Isle of Wight.

I had come across this one . Sorry it isn't the one I am looking for. Thanks for the information where Gosport is. I live across the ocean.

What evidence do you have that there was an earlier one?  MacNamara is not exactly a local name!  Since Portsmouth housed a military garrison as well as the dockyard at Portsea, there were lots of "incomers"
