Winifred Clara Kirk
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 20:05 BST (UK) »

Good evening - I am trying to trace the parents of Winifred Clara Kirk who we know was born  on  c November 5th 1917 at Bluebell Hill Chatham Kent.

We know she married John James Taylor April 1937.

Seeking more info on Winifred and her parents.

Any help would be appreciated.

Loupy.

Hi Loupy

Are you sure she was born 1917 and not 1908?  I only ask because there is a Winifred Clara KIRK birth registered Medway district 1908 http://freebmd.rootsweb.com and there is also a Winifred Clara TAYLOR died in the Canterbury area Feb 1987 (born 5 Nov 1908) Huh

Hi there
We had to do a "guestimate" for the birth year but you have found the right wonderful woman.

As per the other family - I have tried to use FreeBMD and get nowhere - where am I going wrong??

If by the 'other family' you mean the 1937 marriage, then freebmd, as yet, is only up to the 1920s.     You can look at the coverage pages to check where they are up to.
When you search, try not to be too specific, as what is registered may be different to what you think you know  Wink  for eg use a wide from and to date, just a county (sometimes no county), and try soundex if it is a name that could be spelled a few ways.

For the marriage you will have to look at the full indexes at ancestry or findmypast or maybe your library may have them.

Thanks for reply - not sure what you mean by Full Index - does it give parents details of there then?  I am a member of Ancestry and did search for Winnie (as she was known to us) on there but couldn't find parentage.

Thanks

I was thinking that by 'other family' you meant the 1937 marriage.  What was the 'other family'?

As she appeared to be born in 1908 there is no mother's maiden name (mmn) in the index so we can't look for a marriage.  I do believe you will have to order the birth cert to get details of the parents.  Unless there is a sibling who was born after the September quarter 1911.

Thanks Silvery - I will do as you suggest and get a copy of the birth certificate.  At least it will give me something to go on from there.

thank you.

Hi Loupy

Do you know where she married?

If you think she was baptised in one of the parish churches around Chatham you can try the online parish registers at Medway Cityark (might save you having to get a birth certificate) http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/
