My great, great Grandfather Frederick Joseph Bell b 1828 Wisbeach, Cambs, was married, according to the 1871 Census, to Frances b 1839 London, Their first child arrived in 1864
In the 1861 Census he is recorded as living alone in Northamptonshire
I can find no record of him in the 1851 or 1841 Census
Now I have located a Frederick Joseph Bell m Jul-Sep 1848 in Wisbeach - no further details
1 Is this the same man, if so what is the name of his wife and what happened to her, were there any children? 2 Is his marriage to Frances (nee unknown) his second, when did they marry? I think she died in the 1890's 3 Who were his parents?
Can anyone help please?

Hi Tati
The Bell/Cross business is probably explained by illegitimacy - there's a baptism in Whittlesey in 1826 of Frederick J BELL, mother Rebecca, father John M CROSS found on the Cambs FHS baptism index 1801-37 at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html
So it looks as though the 1848 marriage is the right one, on the assumption that the 1826 Frederick is the right one. Cumulatively it all adds up.
