This was found in one of the local newspapers concerning my g gfather, Michael Lee;
He struck a woman in Price St Birkenhead, who was holding a baby and claiming he was the father. This was at the time the banns were being read out for his marriage (not to the woman he struck). This happened in Birkenhead, 1889. The woman concerned he was paying money to. He went to court after this but I can't find anything further.
This is why the family think the said woman, Jane Hughes, was the woman Michael Lee married second, after the death of his first wife in 1910.
I thought I'd let you know why I was trying to trace Jane Hughes.

I see that her parents were from Wales I wonder if she was shipped off to relatives. I'll try the Welsh censuses.
