Jen I had a look at the Carlisle marriage licences. Nothing for Jane Rudd.
I don't know if the following is of interest:
In 1715, a Thomas Rudd of Brough is a bondsman.
In 1748 there is the marriage of a Margaret Rudd, bondsman William Rudd of Warcop. I think the same William appears as bondsman in a couple of later marriages.
Let me know if you want details for the above. regards Deborah

Jen The absence of the licence doesn't mean much. These are transcripts of transcripts of what survived and most people would have used banns anyway. But as you say, even negative information may help. Was this family well off?
1 July 1715 Ewbank, Jonath, Burentwaitt Richardson, Margt. Rudd, Tho. Brough, p Brough
23 Nov 1748 Parke, George, Swath-burn, p Ashby, yeoman Rudd, Margaret, Warcupp, spinster Rudd, William, (marks), Warcupp, yeoman
There are other Rudd marriages but it takes quite a long time looking them up and transcribing them. If you can give me first names or places or approximate periods that might be of interest then I can check for them. regards Deborah

Thanks for the new information, Deborah. I know absolutely nothing about the Rudds other than that Jane married Christopher Crossland in 1748 in Spennithorne, N. Yorkshire. I can't find anyone to fit the bill closer to hand so am really struggling.
I am interested in the fact that one of these marriages involves a Ewbank as this is a name which comes into my tree, three generations further back, when Arthur Dickenson married Annas Ewbank, Brough under Stainmore, 1632.
From what I have found, I suspect they were not too badly off but I wouldn't go so far as to say wealthy.
I am very grateful for your help and only sorry I can't give you anything more to go on.
Regards,
Jen

Jen I have a couple of Ewbanke marriage licences for Brough in 1737 and 1746 (and some from later still) if you are interested in those? The marriage licences effectively start in 1699 so nothing for the marriage you mentioned. regards Deborah
