Thomas Irvine

I am looking for any information on a Thomas Irvine and Jane Murray they were married December 9 1845 and I think they were born in Shetland. I have their children's names which are William born 1847, Ellen born 1850 and Thomas born 1859. I would appreciate any information.

I can't find them at the moment on the 1851 census but here is the 1861 for Delting Shetland - address was Stony Cots and all  b Delting except Mary Gilbertson

Jane Irvine 41  farms 3 acres
William   14 
Helen  10  (could this be Ellen)

Ursula   6
Johanna   3

Just found them on the 1851 indexed as Irwin  Address Lepthi Gardens Firth  Delting

Thomas   30  b Swinister farmer & seaman (could explain his absence in 1861)
Jane   32     ditto
William   4   ditto
Ellen   6 Months b Firth
Anny Maudt?? 10  servant

1871 for Delting - address was Uphouse and all b Delting  Not shown whether Jane is married or widowed

Firstly - a warm welcome to Rootschat.  You'll find everyone here very ready to help and advise.
In addition to William (23 Sep 1846), Helen (18 Oct 1850), and Thomas (24 Jun 1859) there were Elisabeth (28 Jun 1852), Ursula (12 Nov1855) and Joan (2 Dec 1856), all born at Delting.

FamilySearch.org shows 5 Thomas Deltings born between 1817 and 1820:

Thomas  4 Dec 1817 Delting  -  Parents: John Irvine & Margaret Anderson.
     "       11 May 1817 Whalsay - Parents: Laurance & Jan Johnston

     "       27 Apr 1818  Sandsting & Aithsting  -  Parents; Andrew Irvine & Elizabeth Yell.
Thomas   22 Jan 1819 Nesting  -  Father: William.
     "        1820 Delting  -  William Irvine & Marion Johnston.

I should mention that the Thomas born 11 May 1817 and the one born 1820 are entries submitted by LDS members and would need to be checked against ScotlandsPeople. The others are taken from the parish registers and can be depended upon.
Either the 1851 or the 1861 census of Delting would give the father's birthplace.

The Shetland family history home page website (bayanne.info/Shetland) has a huge database on the families of Shetland.  It shows that Thomas Irvine was born 4 Dec 1817 at Swinister, Delting, his parents being John Irvine (b. about 1790 Swinister) and Margaret Anderson (b. 1789 Northmavine ).  They were married  20 Nov 1811 Delting. 
John died before 1851 and Margaret died 10 Oct 1856 Sandside, Delting. The site has more information on this Irvine family.
