charles flaxen/flexon missing years

my 2xgreat grandfather Charles Flaxen/Flexon was born 1826 cumnor berkshire he is listed in the poor house he was orphaned when he was about 6.I found this on parish records then in the 1841 census he is living with Martha Flexon she could have possible married charles grandfather when his 1st wife died .in the 1851 and 1861 census there is no signe of him anywhere.He reapears in 1871 in oxford with his wife Ann nee woodcock/wells and now has children.Then the family moved up to South Hylton near Sunderlandin the 1870s.Were they lived hapely ever after.Anyone got any idea of charles whereabouts in his missing years.

start by giving the ref(s) for 1841 and 1871.

fisrt of all sorry i got my years a bit mixed up it should have said missing 1851 and turned up 1861 ive got the ref no. for the 1861 census its Rg-896 cant find my print out for the 1841 census but when i do i will post the number.

The 1861 ref is RG9/896; F/57; P/17.

He is 34y, a Night Police Man (Have I read that right)? and eldest child is 1y.

i can see a couple of flexon (or close match) b Hincksey.
is that anywhere near Cumnor?
Did Charles have any siblings?

he had 5 brothers and sisters rachel/sarah/fanny/hannahand harriot only charles and fanny lived to adult hood ive not traced any of fannys side.

hi again pauline ive just phoned my uncle and he thinks he was told when he was a kid that his great grandfather charles flaxen served in the welsh fusilliers for a time funny enough my uncle is also called charles flaxon this may well explain why i cant find him.Not to sure how to find out more.

hi Jamjo i think charles parents were Stephen and hannah nee shephard they may well have beenmarried at appleton30/9/1810
Stephen was born 1786 died16/10/1834 hannah born 1792 died 5/9/1835
Stephens parents may well have been Stephen and sarah dont have her maiden name i think Sarah died and Stephen remarried Martha Yeatman
Fanny married William Clarridge in Cumnor in 1839.
i obtained these names and dates by writing to the Cumnor history group
