Hi Mabel
I might have a little luck with your query.
There is a Richard Horton in the 1851 census living in Bilston aged 28 and born in Sedgley (close by)
Also on the same page just a few doors away is Mary Horton, a widow, aged 55 born in Bilston.
There are other children with her who could be brothers and sisters of Richard.
Have you seen this.?
Regards
Tony

Hi Mabel, I think he's at West Bromwich in 1841. There's a marriage in the West Bromwich district, Jun qtr of 1841 - one of the possible brides named as Selina Shealds - Vol 18 page 259. The name on the 1841 census is mis-transcribed as Riap Horter, but it looks like Richard Horton to me - he's living with father, Henry (transcribed Horter). It does say the Riap Horter has an alternative name Richard Horton. HO107 Piece: 977 Book 9 Enumeration District 15 Folio Page1 line 11 Richard's occupation is given as engineer - living on Walsall Street, West Bromwich. Hope this is your Richard - good luck. Paulene P.S. There are lots of Hortons in West Bromwich, Tipton and Rowley Regis.
