Hi Trish, Glad to see that your package finally arrived safe & sound.
Totally agree that wills can be a real treasure trove of information. A couple of mine have opened doors that I had never even thought of....And boy! Did I get some surprises.
Certificates give dates and names etc.. Wills give more insight into the person, and the family dynamics....Can make a soap opera look tame in comparison.
Cheers, corsharn
Not sure where that came from - No sign of my "package" - lost for all time per courtesy of Aust Post The information for Bob came from what was checked for me by another rootschatter.
Good old Australia Post...You don't want to hear what I think of them
I've had so many thing mysteriously go missing I've reported the missing items...Still missing!! And AP couldn't give a hoot. The blood pressures going up just thinking about them.
I got my wills on the 2nd try today - Laurie has been away - they were posted last Friday and arrived safely today - there was 1 will and one intestacy (sp) - my grandmother was left with virtually nothing & 2 small boys in 1922 - the meagre amount of money that existed was mostly in trust for her sons (when they turned 21!). I do wonder how folks survived - welfare is not much joy today but in 1922 it was non existant!
My gg-grandmothers will was a real eye opener as well...She left her whole estate to only one of her 7 children, leaving my g-grandmother who was widowed with four young children out in the cold. Can't imagine how hard it would have been for them..As you said, no welfare back then.
I guess the saying " A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water" is very true.
