Cremation Records ?
« on: Monday 28 January 08 04:09 GMT (UK) »

Hi, Smiley

I need help. I have never done any research in Canada (even though I live there) and have no idea where to start.

Does anyone know what kind of records are held for cremations?

My uncle died in the early 60's...not sure of the exact year as I was young at the time. I do know that he was cremated......it was and is the only cremation I have ever attended.....and I'm almost positive his ashes were interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.

I can't seem to find any records regarding his cremation Huh

Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mab,

You may want to contact the cemetery administrator at Mt Pleasant cemetery for info regarding your rellie. I have had quite a it of success from other administaators. They actually provided quite a bit of info. Because of it being within the time restrictions for getting that kind of info, you may have to prove that you are in fact a relative of this person. Hope this helps you,

Thanks JDC

I have no proof that I'm a relative because I'm not technically...my aunt was his second wife so no blood ties I'm afraid.

My aunt is still alive..soon to be 90...living in England now for many years. She's feeling her age and wanted me to check his burial site.

It's a very old (kinda famous locally) cemetery so I was hoping to find a map/directory or layout on line but not  Undecided

I'll give them a call.  Hopefully they have a map  Grin

For the Family..I was told yesterday that the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemetaries are private so the information is not online. But some of them actually have a geneology room where you can hace access to files and you may place information on geneology in the file! Hope you have had some luck.

From another link I had found...

This person will do lookups for Mount PLeasant Cemetary in Toronto (from Canada's Genweb Cematary Project). May be worth an inquiry..

Edited...Pm for info if further needed..

Thanks Kiddo,

I'll give it a try. Can't hurt  Grin

When the weather gets better ...no snow  Lips Sealed... I'm going to take a wander around the cemetery. I went with my aunt once but that was many years ago. It's quite an impressive place but very big.
