Marriage of Thomas Lawrence 1826
« on: Tuesday 04 March 08 12:09 GMT (UK) »

Thomas Lawrence B 1796, was married to Elizabeth. I don't know her surname and thought that if someone could look up records for me I might be able to find some info. Elizabeth was born in Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire. They probably would have been married around 1826. They appear in the 1841 and 1851 census and have Thomas B 1827, Sarah B 1830, William B 1831, and Samuel B 1832.

They lived in High Wycombe, Bucks.

If anyone can help with finding Elizabeth's maiden name or the baptism of Thomas I would be grateful.

If Elizabeth was from Great Marlow, it's likely that they married there - and Great Marlow marriages after 1611 are not on the IGI.

I've got a fiche of Great M marriages up to 1837 but I'll have to wait until I go to the local Record Office to use their fiche reader.

In the meantime, perhaps someone else will have better access to Great M marriages.

As the family lived in High Wycombe, it's likely that Thomas came from there but, again, no H Wycombe baptisms on the IGI!

Thank you for your help. I have made one mistake though.   Huh  I put the marriage of THOMAS and it should be John. Thomas is the son, B wycombe. John born West wycombe.

I hope I haven't totally confused you!

Thanks again

Not a problem.

So - just to confirm - I'm now looking for the marraige of John Lawrence and Elizabeth about 1826, hopefully in Great Marlow? I've also got Little Marlow marriageson Fiche so I'll take a look at them whilst I'm at it - as LM is very close to GM (as the names would suggest!!  Lips Sealed)

Yes - Thank you for all your trouble its definately John Not Thomas.

While you are looking up marriages in Gt Marlow there is a James Coleman or Coalman (spelt both ways in the censuses) B Ipstone 1803, wife Elizabeth B Gt Marlow 1806, married about 1827. I would like to find her maiden name also.

I hope this is not too much trouble.

Thanks again

I checked out the fiche this morning at the RO.

Mixed results:

The nearest I could find for a John Lawrence marriage in GM was to Maria Rolls 10 Dec 1835, which is wrong on bride's name and date, but I thought I'd mention it - just in case! It gives Maria as otp and John of Buham ?, BRK (their question mark). Not sure what 'Buham' is but could be Bisham - not far from GM.

Nothing for this in Little Marlow either.

Better luck with the other marriage:

21 Oct 1826 Great Marlow banns James Coleman bach otp & Elizabeth X Blick spin otp.
Witnesses: Daniel X Blick & Wildsmith Badger (the latter is a regular witness - fantastic name!)

Thank you so much for that Jill. It seems that the Lawrence marriage was probably in Wycombe then.

Thank you also for the Coleman marriage; another puzzle piece solved.

Bye for now
