I'm looking for Harriet Plummer in 1851. As you can see below she would have been aged 25 - 29 by then. If she had married before '51, the only marriage that I can find is to James Young in 1846. I suspect that her mother died in 1850 and the only info that I have about birthplace is that William (my 2xgreat-grandfather) was born in Suffolk.
1841 Census HO107/1348/1 - 8 Walker Yard Leeds Yorkshire
PLUMBER (All born out of county) Ellen, 45, Ray Cutter Mary, 20 John, 20 Harriet, 15 William, 11
Thanks for your help,
PeterB

Robert,
Thanks for that. That does look like the pair from the '46 wedding. It also leads me to think that this is not my Harriet. This Harriet in '41 should be 14 yo and born in county (ie Yorks). In '51 my Harriet should be 25-29 and not born Yorkshire.
This Plummer family is difficult to track backwards or forwards.

Thanks Jen,
Here are the YorkshireBMD marriages, much more specific than FreeBMD
1846 PLUMMER Harriet / YOUNG James St Peter, Leeds CE46/22/289 1853 PLUMMER Harriet / NORTON James St Mark, Woodhouse CE69/C/236
If Harriet was born 1820, she would appear as 20 yo in 1841.
The John in the 1880 US census is well worth pursuing.
The facts that I have is these. My 2x ggrandfather William married in 1858. He gives his age as 29. He names William Plummer, smith as his father. (no indication if still alive)
From the 1861 census I get the following info.
William PLUMMER, Head, 31, Leather Skinner, Exmouth Suffolk Court No 8 Oborne St, Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire RG9 3495 / 64 / 4
He has a wife Emma and children ELLEN and Eliza.
The only suitable William that I can find in 1841 is in the family in my original post. I am not certain that he is my William, but it seems likely. He could have named his daughter after his mother. So I am looking for William married to Ellen The nearest candidate for young William in 1851 is an 18 yo inmate in Armley gaol. There is also a John Plummer there but the wrong age.
I thought that if I could track the other family members, I might get some clue to their origin. It is going to be difficult

Hi Peter
In another census he gives his place of birth as Exworth, Suffolk, this should in fact be IXWORTH, Suffolk I think you should search in that area.

Thanks to you both,
Exworth, as you say, probably Ixworth or possibly Ickworth. It depends how much of a Suffolk accent he had and how that was perceived by the Yorkshire ear.
