How can I find a burial?
« on: Friday 15 February 08 20:37 GMT (UK) »

Is there any way of finding out where someone who died in Tundergarth in the 1950's is buried?  There is no visible grave stone for them at Tundergarth.

The way I have approached it before, is to contact the local minister directly & get him to put you, either, in touch with the local church warden or ask him to trawl their paper records for you. They are usually quite accommodating.

Tundergarth Kirk is linked with Eskdalemuir & details of how to make email contact with the minister can be found on this link:-

May be worth a shot.....Good Luck & Rgds.

In the event of no church records, I have always consulted the Dumfries & Galloway Council in the past as I think they have the more recent burial/lair records:

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/dumgal/default.aspx

gives you the initial telephone number/address. I think it may come under Environmental Services but the switchboard are very helpful.
