William Warner in Huntingdon Sept 1917
« on: Wednesday 12 March 08 09:32 GMT (UK) »

Hi

Picking up where I last left off in Oct 07:

I am trying to find my unmarried grandfather who was named by my Mother on her Marriage Certificate as William Warner - Farmer and hand written on her Birth Certificate.  My Mothers middle name was Warner and it looks very much like that name may be the key.

With the help of "Wozzle" I was given these details:

1901. the only one i could find that would fit if he was in the area in 1901.
1901. RG13/1474/28/17.
william.a.warner age 43. b. brampton,hunts. occ. dom.gardener. head.(married)
eliza warner age 20. b. ditto. occ. housekeeper. daughter.
william.d.warner age 7. b. offard darcy,hunts. son.
living at buckden road,brampton,huntingdonshire.
reg.dist. huntingdon.

As my Mother used to story-tell when we were young that my Grandmother worked as a domestic Servant at Hinchingbrooke House (Scuse the spelling, I have seen it spelt different ways) and as you can see William D Warner (Looks like an A in the actual census document) being in a fasmily of Domestic Gardeners a mile from the House. The census return shows 5 Domestic Gardeners/Nurseryman in the page of 5 houses.

Can anyone assist by letting me know if the houses in Buckden Road were Tied Cottages to HH or know of any means of checking the employment records at HH around 1917 to 1918.

there are some records of servants at Hinchingbrooke house at huntingdon record office but these are for the early - mid 1800's so a bit early to be of much use to you im afraid!
