Trying to find a 1891 Census for John WEST and his wife, Augusta WEST (though John may have died before?). Don't know which county they would be in.
John WEST b.abt 1810, Taunton, Somerset. Occupation would be retired, or gentleman, or superannuee (Post Office) etc...... Last record is the 1881 Census living at Folkstone, Kent with his wife, Augusta WEST. I have previous Censuses and his history up to 1881.
Augusta WEST (she is John WEST's second wife, married 1878 (ironically 1st wife also Augusta d.1861). Second Augusta WEST b.1837, but where? 1871 Census has Germany. 1881 Census has Cheltenham, Gloucester. Her parents were German, and I also have her history up to 1881 including her first marriage in Germany. Last record is 1881 Census living with husband, John WEST.
Appreciate if one or either could be located.
Regards
Les

Thanks for those 3 very quick, but more importantly great replies. I have no doubt that's her ie; age, place of birth, and of course name (although incorrectly Went for West).
Thanks for the possible death of John WEST in Dartford. I had just found that very reference before replying to this posting. The place and age fits in nicely. I only received the wrong certificate for him last week, the one for John WEST in Tunbridge, which is the reference at Free BDM that preceeds the death at Dartford. I think my 7 pounds for the Dartford Certificate will be looking promising now.
Now, can I stretch the friendship, please
As I can't seem to find a possible death for Augusta WEST after 1891, is there any chance of trying to find her in the 1901 Census as well? It would be interesting to see what she was up to. I can't place any of the names with her in the 1891 Census.

Hi Catherine
Thanks for trying. If you couldn't find her in the 1901 Census, that may(?) be her death in 1900. The age puts her b.1831, whereas all censuses and marriage cert has her b.1837. Then as you say, it all depends on the informant. The only way to prove it was her would be to purchase the certificate and hope(!) her occupation is listed as "widow of John West".
Anyway, I am more than happy with the 1891 Census you gave me. It definately proved John WEST was deceased (as I had suspected, but not proven). I will be applying for his certificate, as I indicated previously in my other reply, but not too sure about Augusta? It gets a bit expensive buying the wrong ones. Last lot I bought, 2 out of 6 were wrong, including one for John WEST, though I'm confident I've got him this time. I am descended from John WEST, but not his second wife, Augusta.
