Hi, I'm looking for the following Soutar family from Blairgowrie. William Soutar b. abt 1752, Blairgowrie, married May McGlashan 31 Dec 1779, Blairgowrie. I have no information on May at all. The parish register for their marriage said she was from Blairgowrie, as was William. William died in 1848 in Blairgowrie.
Williams will mentions his son Thomas, from Green Bank - I have all the sons details (married Susanna Shaw in 1809). He also mentions a brother Thomas (b. abt 1766 according to 1841 census) and a sister Margaret b. abt 1767, this was my guestimate. She married James Robertson on 13 March 1796, also Blairgowrie.
The problem I am having is that I can't find parents for William that have children with these three names for the dates I'm looking at. I have found a James Soutar and Christian Sanders which match Williams dob but they don't have a Thomas or Margaret. My only guess is that because these children were born much later they were "missed" by other researches, or Christian died and James remarried and had these other two children.
I have been mainly looking through family tree's on ancestry.co.uk, the scotlands people web site and Family Search.
If anyone can help or knows of this family at all, I would appreciate any input. Thank you, KYLIE

On the IGIs there is the following,
THOMAS SOUTER 14th Apr 1765 Blairgowrie
MARGARET SOUTER 16th Aug 1767 Blairgowrie
Father JAMES SOUTER
Mother ELIZABETH GENETLY/GELLETLY
I couldn't find a marriage for this couple.
MAY MCGLASHAN could this be her?
MARY MCGLASHAN 2nd Dec 1764 Blairgowrie
Father PETER MCGLASHAN
Mother ELIZABETH ELDER
She would have just turned 15yrs old at the time of the marriage but remember they could marry at 14yrs.

Maybe we are related!
In my family history I also have a Soutar and McGlashan although with slightly different details...
James Souter (c. 1796) from Caputh married Margaret McGlashan (c. 1796) in 1827 at Caputh
The parents of James Soutar were William Soutar and Elizabeth Gilletly
The parents of Margaret McGlashan were John McGlashan and Elizabeth Robertson
This might be a complete red herrring but it's a conincidence that both surnames are the same.
