Hi l have found out that the Waterloo Inn may be now called The Heroes.
And that Edward Greentree died in Hampshire and that Fanny moved back to Cornwall. I have tried to find out more history of this inn but cant find much.
Any one know were or who l can get some info from and if possable some old photos.
I was born in Waterlooville (a long time ago!) and as far as I can recall in the 1960s to early 1970s the pub in question was called "The Heroes of Waterloo", complete with inn sign of scrapping Napoleonic-era soldiery.
It was then on what used to be the main crossroads in the village, across the A3, near to St. George's Church. As the place grew both the church and the pub were demolished in various redevelopments and the pub moved to the northern end of what had been the main shopping bit of the A3 and was now a pedestrian precinct. The name was shortened to "The Heroes" at about the same time.
I am not sure but I think the pub stood where the NatWest Bank is now.
Unless things have changed I don't think Waterlooville runs to a museum! However, the local library is very good and has quite a bit of local history material. Their contact details are on http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/hampshire.html.
Also, if you "Goggle" "Waterlooville 1800s" there are a couple of views - one very oblique of the front of the pub and the other of the stables at the back. I'm sure there are other better images somewhere!
