Hello crackpot,
Could only find these 2 births to the couple on the IGI - an admittedly quick search - 20 yrs either side of 1800 - all counties.
:O)
GEORGINA MCKENZIE THORBURN Christening: 18 NOV 1808 Troqueer, Kirkcudbright, Scotland MARY THORBURN - Christening: 05 AUG 1803 Troqueer, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
And a description of Torqueer parish - with the reverends name in brackets.

And again crackpot - your 'lucky day' :O)
The following link gives a nice precis. Apparently there would appear to be some stuff in print from him. Appears to have led a very 'full' life :O)

And even better - there is his will on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - £5 to download. An 11 pager, which hopefully was written by someone with very neat handwriting :O) Good luck with the transcription...........

Hello crackpot, I am a descendant of William Thorburn's sister Mary and I've got a bit of info. The Rev was born 18 Aug 1766 at Kelton; Dumfries parish; father William Thorburn mother Agnes Richardson of Heck near Lochmaben. he was 6th of 12 children; who mostly did very well for themselves. My ancestors were the ones who went bankrupt! The Rev had 10 children (that I know of) mariane, Nancy, William,Lilias Staig, Georgina Mackenzie, Mary, Kenneth Mackenzie, David Staig, Georgina Mackenzie (2nd), and James Stewart. The Rev was buried in Troqueer Churchyard just inside the gate; a short square memorial with inscriptions on all 4 sides. I don't have a picture of him and neither has the church; but I haven't stopped looking. There's more if you want. gingerswife.
