MI - Princetown, Devon
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 07:58 GMT (UK) »

Could someone tell me if there is an MI book for Princetown.  I don't know if there is more than one cemetery.

I am particularly interested in the name Gregory.

I was kindly given the reading for my gr. grandfather's grave about three years ago when I first started my research.  He was buried in Princetown.  I am now wondering if there are more Gregorys nearby.

My gr. grandfather was Richard Gregory who died at Prince Hall Lodge on 5th June 1909.  There are other members of the family in the same grave. I have been told he is buried next to his sister but not sure if that was Mary or Emma.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks
Betty

Thanks foxy for that.

There is great accessible information out there for this area.  Also a relation on another Gregory line has given me additional information.

I was wondering if there was an MI book so that I could possibly track down other ancestors buried in the same graveyard as my gr. grandfather.  Then possibly get a photo of the grave stone at some time in the future.

Thanks for your time.

have you thought of finding out what churches there are in Princetown and writing to the local vicar? May even have a web site a lot do these days.
Do you know if they followed a particular church, Methodist,  Roman C etc??
I live in south Devon but I dont have a car so Princetown is difficult as its so remote.

St Michael and All Angels Church Princetown

Wikipedia
The church has the distinction of being the only one in the UK constructed by POWs and is dedicated, as are many churches in high locations, to St. Michael. It was taken out of use due to structural problems and damp and is now maintained by the Redundant Churches Fund, although the building has been stabilised and made safe. Services are held nowadays in the Methodist chapel at the other end of the village.

Hi

Thanks for the sites and advice.

I think I will contact the Family History Society first to see what they can tell me.

Thanks
