I think you are right Sarndra, as I said I never knew him as he died two years before I was born. My Dad often spoke of him regarding his work, he built the house I was born in, but not really about family life and my uncle (Dad's older brother) is still alive and well into his 80's but gets upset easily when I try to talk about him although wanted to know what I could find out about his WW1 record. He survived war in the Somme and Active Service on the Western Front for 3 & a half years, with the Royal Field Artillery so I am sure he saw many awful things, we can hardly imagine.

It's understandable the elderly relatives get upset talking about it...must be some deep emotional hurt underpinning it all after losing family, but on the same token a shame they don't so that we can pass the information on to others so these courageous acts aren't lost forever and can be documented. They deserve it.
Did you ever get Claudes full military records? I got my great grandfather John LEES's records pertaining to his time from 1902 to 1912 whilst in the Royal Scotts Fusiliers .. it was so fascinating .... they are so detailed Some information maybe a bit of a surprise that you may not normally find as full medical records are given, but nonetheless fascinating. Here's my Johns... http://sarndra.com/royal.html

As yet I have only got copies of his medal cards from TNA, when I last looked on An*****y they only had full records up to surname D and as he did not die during the war the CWGC have no record. I will be looking when I visit Kew in the autumn
Took a look at your John - he has left a puzzle to solve Nice pictures of your children as well.
All the best Crystal

:-) we are so lucky these repositories are out there!
Grr at John ... yes.... pesky man LOL... he and my g grandmother it seems were a bit of a mismatch and he was a firey toerag (my grandad as a child walked between his parents having a fight and was injured) so i'd like to know a bit more about him to see why he was like that.
