Have dug out a few from hubby's side - this first one is surely evidence they are all quite mad! (His G-Aunt Gwen, 1923 Margate Carnival)

...and here's a few from hubby's side of the "tree"!
First up is his Great Grandmother, Louisa (Woods) Harding with one of her grandchildren. Playing the violin became a family tradition and all the generations have played to varying degrees, and some have gone on to become full-time musicians.
The second picture is Elizabeth (Newton) Cooke, another G-Grandmother - quite the "fashion-plate"!

Thanks stoney for the pictures - it's great to think that Our Ancestors is still going. Pentio will be pleased.
Hope G.Aunt Gwen's good shoes didn't get wet.
Interesting to hear how the musical ability has carried on through the years.
As for Eliza Newton - well, what can one say - an absolute fashion-plate. Lovely.
Don't forget to dig out some more photos..........

People in Lancashire wore clogs, leather uppers and wooden soles, fastned by laces or buckles, however the French Sabots and Dutch Clompen were entirely made of wood and just slipped on over very thick socks, The gentleman in the lovely photo seems to be wearing Hob nailed boots. The soles were nearly three quarters of an inch thick-, which were standard wear for agricultural workers. They were so thick-soled they were not flexible and the toes turned up and stayed up!Viktoria.

Thanks perth, thanks rabbit b, The photo was taken in 1897 she would be 20/21. I don't know why she looks sad she doesn't really look happy in any of the photos I have of her. My aunt Lillian, who gave me the photos said she was a bit of a snob. This is her a bit older.
