Re: Clogs
Many, many years ago when I first went to Holland – and I mentioned “clogs” – no-one knew what I was talking about! Their word for the wooden shoe is “klompen” – whether there’s any connection with “clomping about” I wouldn’t know.
Can’t help wondering if “clogs” is an English term – as the song goes: “Though she dresses in clogs and shawl” (“She’s a lassie from Lancashire”). Apparently, I had a pair of clogs (with dark green, leather uppers) when I was aged 3 – 4, but then I am a Lancashire Lad!

Clogs are still being made in the Uk today by a firm called Walkley in West Yorkshire!
