I am trying to trace my Scottish side of the family.

I only have the following details:

     Elizabeth Maxwell
     DOB: Approx  1746
Possibly form Portpatrick

Married Thomas Douglas.

Help needed.

Keith

Hello Keith,

What denomination were the Douglas and Maxwell families? As Civil Registration in Scotland was not introduced until 1855 you'll probably have to rely on Church Records. It's possible that you may find an Irish connection too ... the Portpatrick to Donaghadee crossing is only twenty one miles ... a two hour journey in the days of sail.
