1901 census Bedford
« on: Sunday 23 March 08 14:52 GMT (UK) »

Please has anyone got access to the 1901 census for Bedford, I am looking for Annie Emery @1870 in Kentish Town Middlesex, in 1881 she was living with her grandparents John and Ann Emery at Chalton Road Cottage Blunham, I realise that she could have possibly married by 1901, but I cannot see a wedding for her on the IGI, or a death.
I would be grateful for any help at all, thank you for your interest

Bethan - didn't you find her parents were Thomas & Barbara on that last post?

If you agree that her mother was Barbara - then this is her in 1901 still in London

Barbara Emery 51 widow b Gt Barford Beds
Annie   30  St Pancras
John  17 Islington
Walter  15  ditto
Bertie  10  ditto
Ellen  25  daughter in law b Hants
You should be able to find them on the 1881 census with dad Thomas

Hi Carole, Thanks a lot for your help, I thought that I found Annie on the 1881 census living with her grandparents John and Ann Emery living in Blunham Bedford, there was no sign of her parents, in fact I cannot find Thomas Emery anywhere on the 1881 census, but I will take another look just to be sure.
Thank you so much for all your help, you have been very kind.

Had another look Carole, cannot find either Barbara or Thomas, I honestly thought that they had died, I was very surprised when you found Babara in the 1901, there is one Thomas but he classes himself as a widower.
Perhaps he did a runner, there is one in America who fits the bill, but he is a lawyer, and I have no idea what my Thomas did for a living, so I do not know where to go from here!

Thank you again for all your help

Annie must have been still living with her grandparents, or perhaps working in service somewhere.
Thank you for checking the 1891, funnily enough I was just hanging out some washing and the thought came to me "1891", I rushed back to the computer but you had beaten me too it.

Thank you again for all your help

1881 - Carlary and born Herefordshire (and that is what is written, although, with the benefit of knowing what it should be, what is written, badly, is Barbary). Can't blame the LDS or Ancestry transcribers on this occasion

I can't find a marriage for Thomas & Barbara.

I searched the 1851 and 1861 for all Barbara's b 1849-1851 in Beds and got 4 possibles

I have eliminated 2 of them from later censuses but there are these

BARBARA JELLIS  Christening:  17 AUG 1851   Wilden Bedford,   Father:  HENRY JELLIS      Mother:  SUSAN

Susan was nee Elliott and is with her mother plus 4 month old Barbara on the 1851 census but I can't find them on later censuses at the moment

And my favourite contender - Barbara Williamson b Gt Barford Parents John & Ann

Many thanks again Carole+Bedfordshire Boy, you have certainly given me a lot of information that will be very helpful to my search, although it will take me a while to digest it all! You have both been a great help.

I wish you all the good luck in the world
