Hi Jo.  You may have checked this already but there's an entry in the 1901 Census of St Clement, Dundee for a John McDonald aged 36 and an Elizabeth.

I only found them using the SP index.  Sorry Joe but I have no credits left to download the census entry.

hi monica, isles

i found that one now, thank you both but i am a bit dubious of this due to the fact that in 1893 john put his employment as sailmaker and in 1906 when his daughter mary was born in glasgow he also put sailmaker, his father hector was a marine.....? of sorts on the 1893 marriage cert and i canny even find him, another 10 mins and i will be back tae pulling my hair oot....

What was the birth place and year for your John McD Joe? Given that the one I posted was a tailor, may not be the one you are looking for.

There is a John McDonald showing as patient, occupation sailmaker at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow (Kelvin). Age 34 and born Glasgow. From what you have just said, this could well be him.

What were the details for wife Elizabeth, (birth year and place of birth). I'll see if we can find her in Glasgow too. Also  Roll Eyes, what was the maiden name of of John's mother - does it show on the MC?

Joe

This might be Elizabeth in Glasgow in 1901:

Elizabeth McDonald 28, b. Glasgow, wife
John McDonald    6, b. Dundee
Elizabeth McDonald 2, b. Govan
Hector McDonald 11 mos, b. Govan
James Adair    25, lodger, Galvanizing Labourer, b. Ireland

Address: 50 Cornwall St, Govan

Looking good Joe. Looks like John was in hospital for the 1901 whilst Elizabeth at home with children.

Haven't viewed the original image Joe, just working off the transcripts for the censuses.

Does look though like you have the right entry for 1881 going by the IGI entries for births including some submitted ones post 1875 also all in Kinning Park.
