I've just checked the Standish register and it says exactly what Sue Teakle reported earlier from Phillimore's.  Since it was such an early entry, there was no additional information about family.

Sorry, this doesn't help much, but I still think that one explanation could be that both of these Benjamins had a grandfather named Benjamin, and that their fathers were sons of that Benjamin, if you see what I mean.

Just an update, with no real progress I'm afraid. I visited the Gloucestershire Archives on Saturday and the fiche of the original records do not exist for the period 1694-1725. The Bishop's Transcripts on microfilm were still damaged. I did however get to handle the original Transcripts for Randwick. From these and checking back further I found out the following:

11 May 1672 (Randwick) - Marriage. William Burfoot. and Briget Whitaker.

13 Feb 1687 (Randwick) - Baptism. Benjamin the son of William Burfoot and of Bridget his wife.

30 Oct 1710 (Haresfield) - Marriage. Benjamin Burfot & Alice Burnet both of the parish of Randwick.

16 Feb 1711 (Stroud) - Baptism. William of Benjamin Burford.

28 Apr 1712 (Standish) - Marriage. Benjamin Burfot & Allise Laurence both of the parish of Randwick.

18 Jan 1713 (Randwick) - Baptism. Elizabeth daughter of Benjamin Barfoot & of Allis his wife.

17 Dec 1716 (Randwick) Baptism. John son of Benjamin & Alice Burfoot.

11 Sep 1717 (Randwick) Burial. Allice wife of Benjamin Burfoot.

21 Dec 1737 (Randwick) Burial. Benjamin Burfoot was buried

2 Jan 1759 (Randwick) Burial. Alice Barfoot of Elizabeth daur of Edwd Mills of Stroud.

The final entry is a bit of a mystery and may not be relevant. Everything else seems to tie-in but the 2 marriages for Benjamin remain a mystery, but as you say there may well have been 2 Benjamins.

I am really at a loss with this now.   Huh

Sorry you were unable to get any further with your research, especially after making the trip to the RO.  It is so frustrating not to be able to get the answers you need.  I only suggested the two Benjamins, because of the way children were named after grandparents, leading to a repetition of names within the family.

Regards,

Gill Smiley

Lucky you, getting to handle the real documents!
