IN 1861 William Silbourne RG9/3572 f 9 p11 states he was born Shipton abt 1834 and when he married he stated his father was a William Silburn to date I have been unable to find him in either 1851 or 1841. Surname is spelt in various ways and has been transcribed both as Tilburn and Lilburn. Any sitings of him would be appreciated Regards Tony

My thanks to both of the above. I hadn't thought of Sylbourn but that certainly looks like him and he is in Market Weighton Market Weighton is about 2 miles fom Goodmanham so the 1841 could also be him. especially as he married in Goodmanham in 1854. How the hell did you find him as he was transcribed as Scharn Regards Tony

Hi Mike I owe you a thank you as the William I was looking for I had in 1861 but could not find him earlier. Reading between the lines it looks as though you were looking for the elder William whilst my interest was in his eldest son William. By the way enumerators for the 1841 census were instructed to put correct age for anyone up to 15 then round down to the nearest 5 years for others so a 40 year old could be any age between 40 and 44. However a lot of enumerators put the age as given by the head of the family Regards Tony
