Hmmm. The main problem is finding time for anything else. I haven't even read yesterday's paper yet!

It's all great fun, but did I really need to read that my great grandfather had a Chapel Cart for sale in 1899? And what was a chapel cart anyway?

Luckily(?) I have a mild dose of flu at the moment so don't feel too guilty about the amount of time I am spending immersed in ancient newsprint.

Is this normally a subscription site that can be used by the general public, and if so, how much does it cost to subscribe.
Or is it ususally accessed in libraries.

Sorry, I have no idea. I was told about it by the Upper Dales FHS discussion group and have done nothing more than follow appropriate links. I am now trying to do as much as possible before the trial period is up. And hoping that what is a three week trial will become a more permanent resource.

How cruel would it be, to show us all that this facility exists and then to take it away from us!

Quite agree Jen, one of the papers is the wonderful Ipswich Journal, marvellous if you have Suffolk ancestors, but covers the whole country too. Grin Grin

This is an extract from a message on a mailing list this morning.

"Further to our discussions on this thread the situation is definitely not as
I thought.  The British Library has been consulted and have confirmed that
this is indeed a 'back door' URL and it is not appropriate to use it
further."

So make the most of it while it lasts.

Oh dear - that's the housework out of the window again then!
It's beginning to make my head hurt, reading all that small print. But needs must, as they say.

Don't waste time reading it, download  and save the articles you want, then you can read them at your leisure.

I think my PC must be groaning at the amount I have downloaded. Grin Grin Grin

Look in the history of your browser, if one of your last access points to the site is still  showing there, try clicking on that, it works for me.

I've just done that and it's now requesting password etc. again.  What a blow, I was on the site earlier this afternoon and decided to do some ironing and get back to it tonight when my OH is out.

I have managed to keep gong by keeping the site open while I do other things That is something I would not normally do, but it has enabled me to keep searching, I have been lucky to find a terrific amount and downloaded it all.

My greatest find has been the announcement of a couple of marriages, both in unexpected places. One meant I could go straight to CityArk and download the certificate,  the other, the most important one I have been searching for for fifteen years.

I have been using it on and off all day, with no problem so far. I am scared to switch the computer off now in case I can never get back to it. But there again - maybe that would be a good thing from the work point of view.

I went out last night, leaving the site open on my laptop. When I got home and tried to use it again, it locked me out. Really annoying as I was just about to download an article relevant to my family.

I have just been offered another possible link so if it works, I'll post it in a little while.
