Trying this from a different angle with naming conventions'

Mary Crosbie was bpt. 15 September 1822, Caerlaverock. Her father was James Crosbie. From her death record of 1869 her mother is given as Janet nee Craik

Maxwell Clark and Mary Crosbie's children were:

James - Mary's father
Janet - Mary's mother
Agnes - possibly Maxwell's mother
Maxwell - ?
Mary - Mary
Jane
Willhelmina
Richard

With Mary Cowan (parents James and Mary nee Craik):

(James Cowan before marriage to Maxwell)
Mary
Joseph
Elizabeth
Edward

This is doesn't fit perfectly - we're missing a William but there is a daughter Willhelmina.

I think if I had to gamble, I'd say that Maxwell's parents were William Clark and Agnes Millar.

His death must have been very badly mis-indexed  Undecided

I have to come down to a village to use the internet so have only just found all this.

I will go through it all .
I have been given the info that Mary Crosbie died in 7/9/1869
