Just by chance whilst looking through the baptism register of the High Street Presbyterian Church, Stockport I came across this entry which could tie in with the marriage that Jean found for you. It’s a baptism for a William Entwistle born in Heaton Norris on the 9th Dec 1833 and baptised on the 25th Dec 1833. His parents are Richard Entwistle and Dinah Entwistle or Pears. They resided in Heaton Norris and Richard’s occupation was Cotton Spinner. Richard signed his own name as a parent of William.
Regards, Pat

Jean
Well done Pat,so going back to Jean's find of the 1832 marriage between Diana and Richard above, you seem to have found proof of her maiden name with her first son's baptism.
BB- don't worry about different spellings, everyone has their own way of spelling certain names...........even a name as simple as Brown(or Browne even )
Do you need anyone else finding in this family now Belinda?
All the best
Carol

Hi Carol and Belinda,
Yes, it was a lucky find and I've just found the same entry on the IGI. Can't see any siblings for William.
Pat.

Belinda
Have you seen this possible marriage on Free BMD?
James Hibbert and under the same reference number a Mary Pears.
This was in Stockport reg district in March 1841(only just before the census) ref 19 page 185.
Maybe dad Richard Entwhistle died before they could have anymore kids Pat?

It seems that Richard died 1837,only 3 years after William's birth, so there could be another child born around 1835/37, if there is I can't find it. Neither can I find any reference to William, he's not on the 1841 census with the family and I've checked for a death on the NBI, nothing there. I did find Richard on the NBI, he was buried at Cheadle, Edgeley Stockport on 16th July 1837. The marriage of James Hibbert and Mary Pears is on the IGI and Cheshire BMD and was 8th Feb Cheadle St Mary's. I can look it up but not sure when I'll be going to the library.

Hi Belinda,
I've had a look on the IGI for Ann but can't find a baptism for her. I will have a look at the High Street Presbyterian register next time I'm at the library. Will let you know if I find anything. Cheers, Pat

Hi Belinda,
I’m not to well up on the non-conformist chapels and churches and could be wrong, but as I understand it, High St Presbyterian/Unitarian and Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Chapel were two different Chapels. High Street did burials but think the burial ground must have been built on over the years because as far as I know it isn’t there now.
Regards, Pat.

Hi Belinda, Following on from my last post and to try and clear up any confusion, I’ve just checked my hand list of holdings for the heritage library and although I can’t see any listing for the Ebenezer Chapel which was on St Peters Gate, I’m now thinking that both chapels are on the same film. I’ll check it out next time I’m at the library. If you don’t want to wait until then you could always send an e-mail to localheritagelibrary@stockport.gov.uk I’m sure they will be happy to help.
Regards, Pat.
