I am glad someone has had more luck than I have. Cannot find the family in 1851 - did not think of looking later! Andrea

If in doubt - use a book! Do you have a road atlas or old school atlas? They are all very close to Manchester - in a sort of cup shape south of the city. No distance for those days when people walked miles to find work. As I said earlier, spelling was not fixed in any way at that time. Andrea

caarol possibly but i havee tried thelinks given and i cannot find where ashton on merrsey is in how close to stockport. also, i understand that names can vary but to go from dinah pears to diana peers jusst seems too much. maybe i am wrong i havent been doing this for very long belinda
Belinda
We all(even today) have our own ways of spelling names. My name is Carol,I have a friend who ALWAYS spells it Carole. My mum ALWAYS called Princess Diana,Diane.
So imagine nearly 200 years ago when most people couldn't read or write, many names were written incorrectly with E's and S's added, and taken off names from one day to the next.
Don't dismiss any tiny bit of evidence in this game(genealogy) until you've PROVED that it's not yours. When you've been doing it for more than 10 years ,you'll be grabbing every little possibility with both hands
I was only able to find that death of Richard Entwistle because Jean had said that a Diane married one.Maybe getting that cert would show his widows name was Diane/Diane/Dinah.Then that's yer proof
By the way another website to look up where places are is www.streetmap.co.uk.
Or google the place name and see what sites you get.If you add + genuki ,you may well get some very useful info.
Good luck
Carol

Hi bb,
Possible:
Diana PEERS m Rich. ENTWISTLE 16 Dec 1832 Ashton on Mersey
Jean
By the way girls n boys the marriage that Jean found on the IGI is a member submitted one. It says "record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church".
In other words it isn't a transcript(exact copy) of the entry in the parish registers.
So the spelling could be anyway you wish to interperate them
Carol
Ashton on Mersey ceased to exist in 1930 when it became part of Sale.....not that far from Cheadle if you look on Streetmap

You're doing fine
Look at the top right hand side of the board. I've sent you a personal message (pm) to say hello. Also you can easily click onto replies to your posts, and have a look at any others that take your fancy. The photo board is brilliant, so's the people who do it.
