I have recently found the Death Certificate for a relative who died in the above named institution. Can anyone tell me if this facility was for full time residents? My relative was physically disabled and had spent time in the East Park Home for handicapped children in Maryhill, Glasgow. I am guessing that her say in that Home would only last until possibly the school leaving age at that time. Are records for Broomhill Home available? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Val, Thanks for that. Can't explain why, but I always seem to overlook Google. Must be my age! Very interesting story on this home, it seems to have fallen on hard times towards the end of the 20th century. Outlived its usefulness in this age of "bigger is better". Jewel in Canada

If you contact William Patrick library on 01417754524, they have a very good archives for east dunbartonsire area.
Here's a bit about it taken from place names of Kirkintilloch.
A large mansion Broomhill House was built north of Kilsyth Road during the 19th century and was converted into Broomhill Hospital( with extentions) in 1875. This was achieved by a Beatrce Clugston along with others who formed the Glasgow and West of Scotland association for the Relief of Incurables. The original 62 bed hospital was enlarged in 1884 to115 beds, it was founded to be "for the gratuitous relief of deserving persons who have been renderded helpless with disease".
Rosie, Thanks for your help. Someone suggested Google which I had overlooked. Found a page for Broomhill with quite a bit of information. Jewel in Canada
