Croy/Battison - In Sterling
« on: Sunday 16 March 08 19:32 GMT (UK) »

I am researching Elizabeth Anderson Croy, born 31 December, 1891, in Sterling.  She was the daughter of George Croy and Mary S. Battison.

Any Census Look ups for Croy or Battison would be most appreciated!

1891: Home Farm Cottages, Dunmore, Airth

George Croy, 22, born Fifeshire, Farm Servant
Mary Croy, 23, born Stirlingshire,
Maggy Croy,1, born Perthshire

Sorry, this is from Ancestry so I don't have access to the actual census image and have no credits with Scotland's People at the moment.

Hope this is your family.

1901 Old Schoolhouse, Airth,

George Croy,32, Ploughman, born Dunfermeline, Fifeshire
Margaret, 11
Elizabeth, 9
Mary,7
Annie, 3
James, 1
Catherine Drummond,27, wife, born Kerss Mill, Stirlingshire

Looks like the same George and children but with a new wife, though probably not actually married as she is still using her own surname.

Thank You so much!

I really think that is the correct family, as my grandmother did mention that she had a stepmother, a sister Margaret and Mary.

Again Thank You!    Grin

hi julia

think we have you far enough back now for you to start using
the IGI - click on the link

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

if you put in james croy in first name/last name
then elizabeth anderson in spouse/last name
click on event and select marriage
click on region and select british isles
click on country and select scotland
click on county and select fife

you should get their marriage

Glad to have been able to help. Scotland's People is a pay as you go site and well worth it, as you can download images of BMDs from 1855 onwards for a fraction of the cost of the £7 a shot for English certificates.

Have fun.
