Nothing is impossible and definitely not a biggie, just a question of when someone is going into the city !

Yay - I found another one!

Christine
Found Herbert and Annie in the NZ Herald.
Murly - At Auckland Hospital, Annie Isobel Murly of Highbury, Birkenhead, aged 70. [details of funeral followed & internment at Waikumete]
Murly - On August 21 at Auckland, Herbert E Murly, dearly loved youngest son of the late John Murly of Bristol and brother of R.J. Murly, Christchurch. Private internment.
Unfortunately I missed your last post and only wrote the initials from the death notice (was running out of time on the viewer) and can't remember whether it said Edward or Ernest. I'll have another look nest time I'm there.
But at least it proves that Robert was in Christchurch at the time?
Not sure whether you have this but found Robert's burial record on the Chch cemeteries database (nothing for his wife Gertrude)
Surname: Murly First name(s): Robert John Date of death: Sunday, 4 April 1937 Cemetery: Bromley Cemetery Date of burial: Monday, 5 April 1937 Block number: 9 Plot number: 394 Age: 76 years Address: 117 Richmond Tce, ChCh Occupation: Accountant Place of birth: Rommania Years in New Zealand: 40
Birthplace - Romannia?
I'm back at the library either next Saturday or the one after so let me know if there's anything else I can help with.
Cheers Fiona

Hi Christine
If John was born in the Cokers and his father Roger was a canvas manufacturer - that's sail canvas : Coker Canvas was the whitest!
If he lived in Bristol and London and in Galati/Galatz Moldavia, latterly Romania and some of his children were born in Galatz (1849, 1856, 1858 and 1860 (Ismail is just down the Danube from Galatz) and some in Clifton, Bristol (1861 Census finds them there and births registered there in 1862, 1864 and 1865) and his wife and family moved later to London (1871 Lambeth) (1881) where she came from originally and is listed there as a wodow... is it possible he went to Oz for the Gold Rush?
All his homes and places of his chldrens births were shipping places in a big way.
I cant crack his business/home address in London at his marriage 1845"16 Broad Street Buildings" Any ideas?
East Coker Church records are not on the IGI!
Any thoughts?
Colin

Hi Colin
Your message is full of surprises, nearly brings me full circle.
My interest with the Murly family started with trying to find my greatgrandfather James Henry Clayton and his parents a James Clayton and Katherine Elizabeth Thomas. I have found my greatgrandfathers baptism record 1854 in Mortlake with a side note of his birth being 26th Sep 1851, his full name being James Henry Clayton Thomas with no father mentioned, I have never been able to find him in a census or his correct place of birth.
From family stories which can be untrue, James was an appentice sail maker, there was some sort of death and not wanting James to get/take the blame his mother Katherine paid out his appenticeship and sent him away, James arrived in New Zealand approx early 1870's. I have also just received a copy of a will for Emma (Hester) Clayton, which notes from a daughter that her father James Henry Clayton husband of Emma Clayton was born and educated in Bristol.
Now if Sarah (Thomas) Murly's father in law was a canvas manufacturer/sail canvas, could my James have been living with the Murly family, and then arrived in New Zealand with his Murly cousins.
Just a few ideas that I have had since reading your post, it is also possible that they all could have gone to Australia first, has I have not found any passenger lists as yet.
Thanks heaps Christine

Not sure if you have Blanche Murly in 1861. She is in the household of Joseph STANCOMB, Hurn House, at East Coker in Somerset. Listed as a niece, aged 6, Scholar, born Galatz, Moldavia, British Subject. RG9/1640/18/2
