Villages of Clun (Lwynoven, Thynoven, Thwynoff, Little Loynoven, etc.?)
« on: Monday 17 March 08 01:38 GMT (UK) »

The Parish of Clun register lists my ancestors (Jordan's) in the early to mid-1800's.  The writing is hard to read as far as the actual village they lived in.  Can anyone help me determine the correct names for what appears to be:

Lwynoven
Thynoven
Thwynoff
Little Loynoven
Upper Treverward
Bargenhead? Pentre

Thanks you for any assistance.

Silvery:

Thank you for the links to the maps of the Clun area.  Very interesting!  I did find one of the towns on my list and, based on the spelling of the other towns, it appears they are to the west (Gaelic sounding).  Equally important, I was able to see the relationship of other towns I knew how to spell.  They are very close to one another and gives me an idea of the area where my ancestors lived.  I especially liked seeing the forests and other geographical information.  I am saving the link for future reference for other areas where I have ancestors.

Thank you, again.
