FRETWELL - 1871 /1861 census
« on: Wednesday 12 January 05 19:55 GMT (UK) »

Hi
Any help appreciated.
Looking for my g.g.g.g. grandparents, John & Ann (nee Watson). Born c. 1823 & 1826 respectively.    John was born in Denver, Norfolk but on 1881 census was living in Stuntney, Cambs.  Ann died in 1874.
Thank you
Kim

But totally out of luck in 1861, where the records for Ely including Stuntney were lost in a flood at TNA and are therefore missing from the filmed copies.

But the excellent Cambs FHS website - http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html
has indexes for 1851 and 1841 and the full entry for the family in 1851 is as follows:
HO107/1764/478B
Stuntney, Ely Holy Trinity
John Fretwell H M 30 ag lab b Denver Norfolk
Ann Fretwell wife 24 b Stuntney
William Fretwell son 1 b Stuntney
Hannah Fretwell visitor unm 26 house servant b Denver
William Fretwell visitor's child 1 month b Stuntney

Also in Stuntney was another Fretwell family where the head also came from Norfolk, from a village 5 miles from Denver so there may be a connection

HO107/1764/480A
William Fretwell h m 37 ag lab b Wretton Norfolk
Lydia Fretwell wife b Coveney Cambs
William Fretwell son 15 b Stuntney
John Fretwell son 13 b Stuntney
Matthew Fretwell son 10 b Stuntney
Eleanor Fretwell daughter 7 b Stuntney
Thomas Fretwell son 2 b Stuntney
Samuel Fretwell son 4 mths b Stuntney

Let me know if you need 1841 details

Regards

David

Hi
Thank you both for that. I'd really hit a dead end!
And the info for William & Lydia who are also my g.g.g. grandparents on the other side (my g.grandparents were both Fretwells but luckily came from completely different families!)
Thank you once again - it's really appreciated.
Regards,
