Hi Heaross
Her death must have been after 1863. Two births showing for them:
1. DONALD BRENNAN MCLEAN Birth: 12 MAR 1861 Inverkip, Renfrew, Scotland 2. JAMES HENRY MCLEAN Birth: 27 JUL 1863 Inverkip, Renfrew, Scotland
Thomas looks to have married in Argyll (Campbeltown Flora McLean). By 1871, the family is living in Largs Ayrshire if I'm looking at the right one.
I've just found these deaths:
1 1860 MCLEAN DONALD MORRICE BRENNAN M 3 INVERKIP /RENFREW 567/01 0015 2 1863 MCLEAN JAMES HENRY BRENNAN M 0 INVERKIP /RENFREW 567/01 0032
Unfortunately, like you I couldn't find her death. That was searching for a female M*lean, other name B*, b. 1825 5yrs +/-. Maybe someone else will be able to track her down.
Regards.
Monica

Hi Pat
I've had another look for Mary Ellen and nothing at all is showing for her even leaving out her maiden name. Given that Thomas was in the coast guard service and eldest son looks to be born in England (did the marriage also take place there?) I wonder if Thomas and Mary Ellen may have been away from Scotland between 1863-68. Is there are reference sources to the placements of coast guards? I saw something some time ago on RootsWeb and now I can't find it
Nothing shows for Mary Ellen's death on freebmd not to say it wouldn't be there on the full index but perhaps a possibility.

Pat
Not that it helps with finding Mary Ellen's death, this is the site (Genuki, not RootsWeb) I was referring to re Coast Guards with an entry for Thomas: www.genuki.org.uk/big/Coastguards/M-O.html
