John

I've just emailed you with attached marriage entry for Samuel and Maria.  However, since it's quite a large file, it may be too big for your Inbox, even though I've reduced it.  Please let me know if it doesn't arrive, and we'll find another way round this.

Other entries to follow when the microfiche/photocopier at the RO is repaired - nothing to do with me, I hasten to add!  Some chap managed to fiddle with the adjusting wheels till one dropped off in his hand.  Roll Eyes

Received your email and replied by email.

I have a fear of those machines in the Library they always feel like they will come apart, maybe I'm a bit heavy handed.

I should be near to compiling the data I have to date and then re-thinking the next step.

I have ordered the 1841 census for Gloucester and will need to digest it's content. I will be targetting 1841 as my connections had departed by 1851.

Hi John

Just returned from Gloucester RO, and am glad to report that the microfiche copier is now working again, so I've copied the baptism of Samuel Wilks 26.12.1787, and will send it to you via email ASAP.

Maybe if your Maria was born in Marcle, as you said in your PM, you could post a request on the Herefordshire board to check.

And when you do finally make it to Gloucester, let me know and I'll show you Charles' extremely faint baptism entry at the RO!

Regards,

Thanks, I won't give up with the Painswick connection for Holder family. Yes I will follow the Marcle clue. The 1841 census isn't so great as it only has yes or no for parish of birth, nor does it detail family relationship to household head.

Don't hold your breath awaiting my visit, the retirement nest egg is taking a bit of a battering at present.

John

I'm sending you a PM as well, but just in case any other Wilks/Wilkes folks are reading this, had you noticed that Charles' brother Edwin seems to have named his son Samuel?

8 Oct 1837 Samuel, son of Edwin & Keziah baptised at St Nicholas Church, Gloucester

If this is the right Edwin, he married Keziah Parry at Churcham, just outside Gloucester, 28.06.1837 (just in time!).  However, the marriage is a member's submission on the IGI, so beware, as always, and it's just too early to check on Free BMD.

Regards

Gill
