Little Headington?
« on: Monday 17 March 08 11:41 GMT (UK) »

is there a Little Headington in Northants? I have an ancestor born ~1809-1815, Thomas Hornsby, with that birthplace listed in several resources. But the only Little Headington I can find is in any gazateer is in Oxfordshire. Can anyone with local knowledge help out?

cheers, nudge

PS, the IGI says Little Headington, Surrey. Certainly, Thomas's parents were from Newington in Surrey, but the family did move around a bit. Could Little Headington be a case of shifting county borders?

There's a Little Addington in Northamptonshire. The place in Oxfordshire is Headington, not Little Headington.

The IGI has Thomas Hornsby

   Christening:
21 AUG 1814      Little Addington, Northampton, England

Parents:
     Father:     William Hornsby
     Mother:     Jane

There's nothing even remotely similar in Surrey, and it's very unlikely to have anything to do with shifting borders.

The entry above, and the entry you mentioned are both patron submitted and therefore suspect. What other information have you that could be used to help pin him down?

That's not my Thomas Hornsby. The parents of mine are Joseph Hornsby & Elizabeth nee Green, both of Newington, Surrey, married there 26/12/1814.

some records suggest their eldest child Thomas was born ~1815, which makes sense with the marriage dates. Mind you, Joseph was around 28 when married, so old enough to have a previous marriage - maybe Elizabeth Green is a second wife?

In which case I have to find another mother for Thomas...
