The name of the cafe may have been The Dew Drop in Lower Gungate. Garage opposite called Marmion garage or Rose Brothers a bit lower down. If it is the right place the building is now a florist. The green tiles are still there, a bit of a miracle for Tamworth! The tiles were made at Gibbs and Canning in Glascote. Hope this is the right location for your relatives Cafe. May be able to take a picture for you if you contact me by personal message with your details.

There is a picture of the bulding in it's current florist mode at http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/arodgers/buildings_-_tamworth.htm
Hope this is of interest to you. Smiley

Although a keen genealogist, I am also very interested in gathering any references to Gibbs and Canning, a former local company who made architectural terracotta (amongst other things.) If you come across any references to this company, or have any stories about it, I'd love to hear about them!

Hi Oblivion,
I'm also researching MOOREs in Tamworth. Mine are the family of Charles and Sarah Agnes (both originally from Herefordshire). They arrived in Tamworth circa 1880 with 5 children, and had 3 more (Albert 1881, John 1884 and Thomas 1885) in Tamworth.
Are any of these also in your tree?

Hi Sandra,
I actually don't know-I'm having trouble tracing mine.My G.Dad Robert Ernest Moore b.1898 Leamington Warks is the one who had the Cafe. His Father also Robert Ernest Moore b.app 1860 Chertsey Surrey & we 'think' his Father was Humphrey,we don't know if he had any siblings. If you find you have a Robert Ernest please let me know-they're driving us mad!
                      All the best,

Oblivion

The marriage cert of your two(from the 1901) will show who his father is for sure.

Robert Ernest Moore married Eliza Jane Raven in Warwick in Dec 1890
the ref is 6d page 1110.

I'll take a look tomorrow to see if I can find them in any of the previous censuses.

Hi,
Those are his parents,on the wedding cert his father is 'Humphrey Moore deceased'-there's a man of that name in Leamington but he's too old,we wondered if he's one of this man's daughters illegitimate child?
He was at North Surrey Industrial School & when he left went into the Navy-we have him intermitently from 1881-1901!Thanks for all your help.
