In the 1851 census I have a family called Bunce (sorry, can't give ref. "folio" number missing.)

Head of household is Samuel Bunce, c1789, W Hampton, Staff. Civil parish of Dudley.

Daughter Hannah, 29 was born in Warwickshire. "Ancestry" give "Bering" which doesn't appear to exist!

Could somebody suggest something different?

Crumbs - it could say just about anything couldn't it?

I found Samuel and Diana in 1861, but Hannah is not with them then, so no help.(Only an adopted daughter, Rebecca)Do you know if she married? so we can see if her p-o-b is clearer on another census

I think it says Birm(Birmingham) the rest being a bit of scribble.

I looked at this earlier tonight and I agree with Jim...my very first thought was that it was a "dodgy" Birmingham....I didnt post cos I didnt want to make myself look an idiot....LOL  Grin  but now that Jims posted what I thought it was its ok!!!!!!not that yer an idiot Jim.... Grin

Having looked again with the hints on Birmingham, I think that may be the best bet. Grin

Can't see Hannah after 1851 but there is a Hannah Bunce marriage June 1861 to John Robinson or Charles Smallwood
but can't see her under either of those names  Huh
