Hi - I'm looking for information for my family tree
regarding John & Margaret Irving, who were listed
in the 1851 census as belonging to Canonbie
parish.

I'm missing the year they were married and
a complete listing of their children.  What I do have is..

John Irving   m.      Margaret Armstrong
b.  1771                 b.  1769
d.  1858                 d.  1851

Their children:

Thomas b. 1795?
Andrew b. 1797
Robert  b. 1799?
George b. 1801
William b. 1803?
Margaret b.  1805?
Janet   b. 1816?
There was mention of a Barbara or Martha
but they may have been in-laws.

Do you know how I would find out where
John & Margaret are buried?

Thanks for your help,
Kathy

Isobel - What information is contained in an 'index'?  Since you have
Canonbie for 1786-1805  - could you see if you can find any further info on
Andrew Irving who died Feb 25 1791. He was son of Robert Irving
of Hawkshall.  Andrew died at 32 and was a captain of a ship in Lagos,
Africa.   The ship was the 'Orange Grove'.  His name is the top listing on
the grave stone at Canonbie Parish Church.  I've no idea how to locate
the specific location of the grave stone but I'm going to the UK next
month and plan to search for it.
Thanks,
Kathy

The Canonbie Parish records shows no Andrew Irving  listed.  There is however a son Irving listed but the date is 20/05/1790.

Sorry  not much help.  Is it definately this church.

have you checked this site out it lists Dumfriesshire grave sites.

Isobel,
I'm looking for Armstrong MI's in Canonbie Kirkyard. In particular, Richard (b. ~1719), William (b.1722), John (b.1717), and Richard (b.1760). Also, Mary Forrester (b.1723).
Any help you can offer would be most appreciated.

Thanks Isobel!
I wonder if you can cite your index source - is it the list compiled by George Gilchrist called 'Memorials of Caonbie Parish'?

My information was  received in a booklet from the Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society for a small fee.
http://www.dgfhs.org.uk
As stated previously the dates are 1786-1805 but if you check out
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~scottish/you can check out Canonbie Cemetery for other dates.

Isobel, do you have any information please on Scott or Bell in Canonbie Churchyard, in particular Andrew Scott who died sometime between 1896 and 1904 and his wife Elizabeth (maiden name Bell)

Thankyou
