Tracing 20th Century Emigrants
« on: Tuesday 18 March 08 13:41 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to trace descendants of my Gt Aunt who emigrated from Liverpool to Montreal on  board the Laurentic on 19th July 1913 with her husband.  I know they had two daughters born between 1916 and 1920 who both married and had children in Canada.  Most of the archives I've looked at don't cover such recent events, so where would be the best place to look to find information about this branch of the family.

Thanks
Linda

Hi Linda

Do you know whereabouts in Canada they settled. Did they stay in Montreal. Most records here are arranged by Province.

The only location related information I have is a marriage in 1949 at St Pauls Church, Runneymede, Toronto and at one stage an address of Wexford, Scarborough Township.  There was also a marriage at Milford, Ontario

Thanks
Linda

It is usually more difficult to track down fairly recent records anywhere but names and details of living, and possibly living, people shouldn't be posted on Rootschat.

As you haven't listed the names of the people you're looking for, I will give you the links that may help you find them.

Passenger Manifest
You have to look through manually, but once you find them, it should tell you their intended destination.

LAURENTIC -
Departure Port and Date: Liverpool, England - 1913-07-19
Port and Date of Arrival:  Montreal, Que. - Quebec, Que. - 1913-07-26

If they were intending on going to Toronto, then send me a pm and I will look through the Toronto paper to see if I can find them.

If you think that they may still have family living here, you can always try the telephone listings.

If you find out which province they were going to, send me a pm and I will see if I can help point you in the right direction.

Janice

Thanks a lot for all those suggestions.  I have now made contact with 2 of my three second cousins in Ontario and we are busily catching up and swapping photos and information. Grin

Thank goodness for the internet
