Help Finding Watson or Robinson
« on: Wednesday 19 March 08 14:17 GMT (UK) »

I'm having a bad time today!  Can't find anyone  Sad

I'm battling with my direct Thomas Robinson after 1841. So I'm trying to trace each of Thomas' offspring to see if they have Dad with them.

So I'm trying to find his daughter Elizabeth who is 16 in 1841 living in Brunstock with the family.  Last siting of Thomas...

I have her marriage to a Robert WATSON ...

From film 1137 Crosby upon Eden

1842 18th January Parish Church CofE

Robert Watson a minor and bachelor occupation Brazier usually resident in Lockerby in the Parish of Dryfesdale and Elizabeth Robinson a minor and spinster of Crosby upon Eden married in the presence of Mary Robinson and ? Watson.

I can't find this couple in England or Scotland in 1851?  Can you?

I know her brothers James & John go to Canada but don't see Thomas there.  Her brother Thomas (my direct) goes to Scotland and sister Martha is with him.

Any help appreciated.

the only other crosby watson was ann in 1830 but I'm not sure there is a church in Brunstock. Might be worth checking Houghton (cumberland not Houghton le spring - we say howtun, they say hortun, you know tomaato, tomayto)which was next door to brunstock before somebody built the M6. There is a tunnel under the motorway but I don't know of anybody that uses it!!

4 deaths of a Thomas registered in Carlisle twixt 41 and 51. You will know his occupation from Elizabeths marriage cert so can specify that on the search for his death cert.
Referring back to my previous reply, the church is probably closer to Brunstock than it is to Houghton.

Thanks Bob.

Thomas Robinson was a hawker of earthenware, or potter.  He owned Millhouse just outside Brunstock.

The births of Thomas' children are recorded in Crosby upon Eden, I found them quite easily as they are on the IGI.  They all then seem to disperse after their mother dies.  At the same time Thomas becomes bankrupt.

If there was a death cert that would be a great find!  I was beginning to believe he was hiding alive aged c211!

Thanks,
Pam

Hi
Did he leave a will?    If he owned property then there should be something - if only the selling of the house etc.   Not sure what they have at Carlisle but Northallerton record office have an amazing collection of land and property records so Carlisle may have too.

Carlisle have a good collection of wills but I've never had to use them as all my were peasants - sorry, husbandmen.
I was just thinking of Houghton church in case Thomas is buried there.

Hiya,

I've done an extensive search of the wills asmy Lowthers have quite a few but drew a blank.

He's a mystery.

I'm thinking he either died before 1851 OR went to Canada.  Two of his sons left for Canada but in the 1870s.

I'll check Houghton though- thanks fro thetip.

His wife is buried in Authret as her parents lived there.

I'lltry anything lol  Smiley
