Hello everybody,

Victor Mathias Schnitzler died on 31 Oct 1876.  Have attached part of the death entry to try and clarify Louises name and relationship.

Cannot find death for a Louise/Louisa Schnitzler, Schnetzler, Stechan, Stichan and other variables - (it looks as Louisa Stechan below his name?)  cannot find a re-marriage.

Regards   Steve

If someone is willing to search and identify when she died - I'm willing to download the extract...

A search of Scotlands People brings up only this Schnitzler death from 1865 to 1935

I've had a look at daughter Susanne's marriage cert that Ev found in 1891. It raises more questions than answers....

Parents are down as Mathias Schintzler, bootmaker, deceased and mother, Catherinna Kronenberg (no reference made to her being deceased). Witnesses are C. Schnitler (sister) and a L. STECHAN, who you would think was the Louisa who showed as Mathias wife on the earlier censuses and his death cert  Huh

So, Louisa was still alive by 1891...

And another mystery to add to the pot.

From 1855 to 2006 there was only one Louise Stechan dying in Scotland - from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
1951 STECHAN CLARA LOUISE     F 79 CANONGATE AND PORTOBELLO EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN

Would have her born in 1872 and 19 years old in 1891 - I wonder who her parents were?

Tomorrow is another day - off to zzzzzzzzzzzz   :O)

OK Steve, whilst you zzzzzzzzzzz  Roll Eyes

From the 1891 census:

Marie H Stechan 29, head, Carver Gilder & Frameworker & C, b. Edinburgh
Flanne Stechan 18, sister, Gilders & C ShopKeeper, b. Edinburgh
Louise Stechan    19, sister, Gilders & C ShopKeeper, b. Edinburgh
Lowis Stechan    26, brother, Assistant & Frameworker & C, b. Edinburgh
Willie Stechan    21, brother, student arts, b. Edinburgh
Elise Hasse 63, aunt, b. Germany

Address: 13 Elm Row, Edinburgh

....who are probably children of:

LEWIS STECHAN     Marriages: CHARLOTTE HAASE  on 06 NOV 1858  Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian

Too many similarities, but how do they connect. Lewis Stechan (a frame maker from Germany) a brother/relative of Louisa Stechan who showed as wife of Mathias maybe  Huh

Well Monica
- we seem to be getting sidetracked
- from Scotlands People only female with surname 'Stechan' marrying in Scotland from 1855 to 1932 is

1894
Joseph Turner to  Helene Marie Stechan ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/04 0053

I'm at a loss.  He dies at the family home - his neice is the witness and Louisa Stechan - whose name is under his - is the wrong age to be the Louise Schnitzler.

Currently at work and a lot to do shall look in later in the week

Hello,

I`m back again. at first, thank you for all your Help!!! Smiley Now, what I found out
untill now. Mathias ist not Mathias. He named himself Mathias, or Victor Mathias
but he is Victor and Christine and Susanne are the daughters of his Twin-brother Mathias.
I don`t know what happened to Mathias.
Just some minutes before I found out that in the University Library here in
Hamburg exist some letters from Ludwig Stechan Edinburgh. I look for them in
the next Days.
What i also found out is, that there must have been  Schnitzlers in London
so i go now to the London posts.

regards

Hello Steve,

thank you again for your help. I have been in the Library now and read
some letters ( so I could) from Lewis STECHAN to Friedrich MARTENS. The STECHAN family came from Hanover / Germany.  Lewis, his sister Louise ( who was married with
Mathias (Victor) Schnitzler) and another sister, I think.
Lewis Stechan was a leader of the working classes, fighting for the rights of workers
he had to leave Germany. It is so interesting.
Are there still people with the name stechan in Edinburgh ?

A nice rest Sunday
