Hallo,
I am new here and my english is not so good, I`m sorry. I am looking for Mathias Schnitzler, born 1831 in Cologne, Germany. He went to Scotland probably about 1865. I would be glad if anybody knows something about Mathias and, or his Family. With Thanks and Greetings Brigitte

Hallo Brigitte - Herzlich willkommen hier!
I think I can see him in 1871 in Edinburgh: Edinburgh St Cuthberts 42 Grindlay Street Mathias Schnitzler, head, 40, Tobacconist, b. Germany Louise, wife, 50, b. Germany
It only gives Germany as birthplace but should be him, hopefully

Census 1871 has him and his wife Louise in Edinburgh, 42, Grindlay Street.
Mathias Schnitzler aged 40, born Germany, occupation tobacconist. Louise Schnetzler, wife, 50, born Germany
I wonder if his wife's age has been transcribed wrongly. I can't see the original image as I am using the information on Ancestry.com rather than Scotland's People
Scotland's people is a pay to view site so it might be worth your while having a look there for more information on this family. I will happily do what I can for you through Ancestry, though it doesn't cover Scotland as well as England.
Regards,
Jen

Hi
Does anyone know if the BT Phonebook archive on Ancestry would cover Edinburgh? It might be possible to trace the family through there, or by the business if it lasted long enough.
( I'm not a member of Ancestry, i just came across the page: http://content.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=1025&&cj=1&offerid=0%3a7935%3a0&o_xid=0001756775&o_lid=0001756775 )

Hello,
it`s me again. , want to tell you, what I found out untill now. Mathias Schnitzler is born 31.01.1831 with his Twin-brother Viktor in Cologne. He married 1855 Catherine Kronenberg in Cologne. They had two daughters, Susanne, born 1860 and Christine, born 1861 in Cologne. So who is Louise? In Census 1871 she is Mathias wife, but in Census 1881 Susanne and Christine are her nieces. That would mean she is Mathias Sister.
What have I to do now, to get death certifications of Louise and Mathias. Where I have to ask, and how expensive is this in Scotland.
from the sunny Hamburg Brigitte
