Hi there
im doing a family tree, but rather intrigued and interested in my husbands ggggrandfather, whom is Andrew Cameron b 24 jul 1857, kenmay, inverness to john cameron and margaret ross. he married Agnes Ronald 18 jan 1882 and they had 8 children names marion 1887. linlithogow tina davidson 1888, england iasiah 1889, linlithgow mary1889/1890, glasgow robert 1891 portpatrick andrew 1893 bathgate agnes 1895 glasgow nelly 1897 glasgow!!!!!
well it seems he was in the scots navy( i have his discharge papers), was invalided out.with a fractured thigh! he supposedly won the VC, but i cannot find any ref to this anywhere!!!there is a book about him/his life, written by a reverend, on how he won 2 crosses, the VC and believing in god!(picture attached) i have 2 pictures of him, wearing his VC!(one attached)
He worked as a diver, on the River Clyde, after the navy!, and at somepoint must have been in some sort of army(hence the picture)
can anyone shed any light on this, or even be able to help with the exact dates, of the birth of his children!??? kindest regards
gina btw, he died 1921, falkirk

Hello,
Sorry can cast no more light on 'your' Andrew Cameron. I note on another site correspondence querying the validity of the award of the VC?
From the IGI - www.familysearch.org. there is a Margaret Ross marrying a John Cameron on 09 Dec 1853 in Inverness (there are actually 322 Margaret Ross marrying in Scotland between 1845 and 1855).
Children born to the above. All 'extracted' records.
1. Christina Cameron b 05 Dec 1854, ch 05 Mar 1855, Inverness. 2. Andrew Cameron b. 24 Jul 1857, Inverness ** yours** 3. Catherine Cameron b. 03 Nov 1860 , Inverness
Searched from 1835 to 1875.
Copies of all the above and later Scottish certs can be sourced from the pay per view site at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk buying 30 units for 6 GBP. With the info you have you should possibly be able to download 5 certs for the 6 pounds. If you get a copy of Andrews birth entry it'll give his parents ages which if you follow through census records will allow you to get their death entries and a generation back :O)
Hopefully others with access to census info can pitch in? If required?
Am out of units due to a house extension. Good luck with your research. Regards, Steve :O(
