Hi Douglass
There is a 1914 marriage showing on Scotlands People for a Hugh Smith to a female Bathgate in Dunbar.
There are only two Hugh Smiths with a Dunbar birth place showing on the 1901 census:
Alexander Smith 50, fisherman Beatrice Smith 44 Maggie Smith 20 William Smith 18 Beatrice Smith 16 Bella Smith 13 Hugh Smith 10 Robert Smith 7 David Smith 5 Alexander Smith 3 Alice Smith 1, granddaughter
Address: 15 Custom House Sq, Dunbar. Everyone shows as being born in Dunbar
The second household, a few doors down, at 9 Custom House Sq., all born in Dunbar:
Hugh Smith 46, fisherman Elizabeth Smith 44 Esther Smith 23 Minnie Smith 14 Lizzie Smith 10 Hugh Smith 5
The marriage cert is available to view on Scotlands People and will confirm parents' names for Hugh and details of his wife.
Regards.
Monica

Hi Monica, thanks for the information. Just looking at the ages of Alexander in the 1881 census then in the 1891 seem to be two year out, i also see Thomas isnt mentioned in the 1891 census perhaps he died?. will give me food for thought though. thanks once again Douglass

Don't worry about the age differences for Alexander, 2 years out (and more!) is not unusual. You often find varying ages for people in the censuses, one of the reasons when you are searching that you put an age range of at least 2/3 years either side.
In respect of Thomas, I haven't checked the death index on SP but likely he died young as you say.
