Thanks Mark2 and Althea.  I had found that marriage on the NZSG marriage disc.

I was hoping to do a search of the NZ Herald Death notices for May 1950 to see if that gave a few clues. I am off tomorrow so will visit the library to see what I can find..
It would be great to find out when the photo was taken. If the boy is 6 or eight, it could be taken when his father is away at war as there is no other younger man in the photo. Although I think he was called up in 1916/7. And of course we don't know when Henry or Sophie were born - another search....
Thanks

Don

Suggest you also try the funeral directors listed on the Purewa Cemetery entry for Frances Mary Pauline ANDERSON.
It may be that son Henry is recorded as being next of kin ?

Thanks for that, I have sent aletter off to the funeral diectors today.

I also spent 5 hours at the Hamilton Public Library today and have now found the death info on Emil Percy Anderson - not in 1960;s or 70's as suggested by various family mebers but in 1958. I then searched all of the Christchurch and surrounding districts Electoral rolls for 1957 and finally found that he and hannah were living at 10 Tyler Street, Rangiora (not Ashburton) no trace of him there on earlier Electoral rolls. So have found another jig saw piece.
The Hamilton library only has three years of NZ Herald papers so will have to try elsewhere for the death notice of Frances Mary Pauline Anderson (for married names of her children and grandchildren if any).
Thanks everyone for pointing me in this diection. Will hav to make another visit as time ran out...

Well done Don,

and now that you have a feel for the library resources, I'm sure your research
will leap ahead.

crossing electoral rolls with the indexes will save lots of time.

the death cert of Emil/Percy will be interesting !

Have been looking at this for a while now

My guess is the two women are related, probably sisters.

? (Olavas b/in law),  ? (Olavas sister),  Franz,  Olava,   Percy/ Emil

? (son of above)

Olive,   ? (wife of above),   ? ( *)  ,  ? (related wife + her kid),  ? (possibly hers too)

* she looks like maybe could be Percys older sister, but the marriage to Percys birth is only 5 years and she looks older than that, but is definitely related to him.

When was Olive born ?

Hi Don
See you had success with the Electoral rolls

My fav at the moment are the directories, have you made use of those to look for your names..most have over all surname index then town details.
Again libraries have some and the NZSG library if you have access to a fiche reader

Bye

Hi again Althea, yes I did get to view the Wises's Directories. Found where Percy Emil Anderson and my Lindale grandfathers were living at various dates. I want to go back and have a further look as there are some gaps in where and when they moved. I did fin that my Lindale grandfather's second wife was using the name Lindale well before she was married. I remember when I was very young going to what i thought was my grandfathers store near the Kilbirnie Park  and found that that address was that of my step grandmother and she was described as a confectioner... no wonder I have a sweet tooth.

Thanks for you guidance, it's been most valuable..
